Compostable accessories, bin or compost?
There are two places in the house where we consume a lot, the laundry room and the kitchen.This is why we are proud to introduce compostable kitchen accessories into our beautiful variety of products. This good practice will prevent plastic accessories from ending with waste. And if you didn't know, it takes a minimum of 400 years for a sponge to degrade if it actually makes it to the sorting centre. Even if we are aware of the good practice of these accessories versus plastic sponges, it is not clear where to put the object at the end of its life. Trash, or compost? We've been looking for the right answer to send to our community for several weeks because it's part of our kindness. The information to remember is: both. In the compost if accepted by the local company, and in the trash if refused by the local company. A composting platform can accept or refuse this item be put in the brown bin depending on the composting process used. A large company that uses an industrial process should have no problem with bamboo items mixed in with the rest of the organic materials. But a smaller company, with a more “artisanal” or natural process, might only accept organic material as table scraps. As the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks does not yet keep an exhaustive register on what is accepted in the compost in each of the cities, we have launched an appeal to Recyq-Québec so that bamboo accessories are added to the "ça va où" application to help others to be more responsible for their consumption/waste. Here is their answer " the additions of products in our database must be explicitly requested from various municipalities according to the rules which apply on their territory. However, we continue to develop our portals in order to facilitate these additions and we will revise the process afterwards.” In discussing with the city of Rivière-du-Loup, the ecocentre option is also to be favored since bamboo is wood. PURE more than soap, the documentary
PURE as seen from our lense, by Agence Perso Hey Pure community, let me introduce myself, Alex Ann Villeneuve, owner of Agence Perso. Pure, was my very first client. We are soon celebrating 1 year of collaboration. But Pure has been part of my life way before that. When I moved to the Bas-St-Laurent area, in 2013, I instantly adopted the Pure dish soap (mango fragrance which I still use today). Considering myself a conscious consumer: whether by encouraging local businesses and making more eco-friendly choices, I found the perfect symbiosis of these values in Pure’s cleaning products. Honestly, I can’t stand chemical products…they give me a headache (for real). When I moved in with my boyfriend, I forced him to say goodbye to bleach… Yeah, I’m kind of hardcore like that, I know. All of this to say, Pure was a love at first sight story in my personal life. A love story still going on today. Accentuated by everything I learned on this brand since then: their choice to encourage proximity retailing, asking their consumers to buy in bulk (and doing it themselves)! A shared responsibility, not just: ‘’do it but we don’t really care’’. That’s rare nowadays. For me, this gives great credibility to the process and the brand. It reinforced my attachment to this business, their products. Today I have the full lineup at home. I developed my little pro tips to never run out of cleaning products and I do my bulk refills once a month. When Jenyfer from Marketing called me to say she needed me on their side. It was pretty evident to me I’d jump headfirst into this venture. One of the first thing I said to Jenyfer and Anthony was: ‘’we need to put the spotlight on everything you are doing to be eco-friendly. You guys are preaching by example, and that, gives a lot of power to your message.’’ The idea was to brand Anthony as an eco entrepreneur. He needed to take a stand and so did the team. That’s what marketing is after all, shedding light on the beauty of our creations. We cannot take part in such a global social movement and hide it from the world. Because by sharing, it becomes infectious, allowing us to rise together. When you dream big for yourself, you influence others to dream on their own. Last January, we had a meeting. We put the idea of a behind the scenes back on the drawing board. David Falardeau from Genie Production joined the brainstorm. We wanted to do a mini documentary, for Earth Day at Pure. We wanted to do interviews but also include loads of moving shots to illustrate everything going on behind the curtain at Pure. Everybody added their grain of salt. They told us stories, which we captured to better revisit and archive them. We sealed in time and space the gestures they accomplished. We’ll be able to reminisce on that in 10 years and see their progression. Fundamentally, that’s what mainly motivates the people working at Pure: participating in these changes. Building the word of tomorrow, one step at a time. No pressure, always moving a little bit forward. For us, our children. For our St-Lawrence River. Pure, is a pretext carrying a much bigger message. Letter from an old bottle
I get it…Don’t you dare think I’m mad about your excitement…I can see it with my own eyes as well. She sure is pretty…this ‘’new one’’... You did good buying it. She’s all class and elegance. A really e-PURE-ate design (what a coincidence) But you know what? As elegant as it might look, I (your loyal first Pure Bottle) refuse to bow down easily, (I’m the OG remember). I got something to say (mainly some emotions to rant) Remember all we went through? I don’t want to seem overly nostalgic here, but clearly you need a memory refresh. When we first met, why did you pick me? Do you even remember? You picked me because I represented the start of a new era: the start of a ‘’zero waste’’ era. You fell in love because I embodied that ecological turn you were taking. I am the symbol of your first ecological initiative. The reasons you pick me are still valid. Your desire to reduce your individual imprint on our ecosystems, to use healthier products for you and our planet, is still precious to your Pure heart. In my book, this means my existence is still pertinent. I might be roughed up a little bit…so what? My label is not as clean and clear as it used to be…but so what? I’m proud of myself! All this wear and tear is exhibit A of my well lived existence. I came, I saw, I conquered (dirtiness mostly). We cleaned a lot of stuff together over the years, didn’t we? We sanitized tons of surfaces and spaces for you to better host your loved ones right? The bath, the car, the toys…the windows, the kitchen, the RV…who took care of them remember? If I’m dirty by now it’s that I have hell of a career behind me. Don’t want to boast, but you just can’t put in stats the number of colds, viruses, gastros and other diseases I protected you from. So yeah…you think I’m dirty ? Hell no, these are war scars. You and I still have so much to live for Ok, I might not look as flawless as the new one. But I still do my job, a perfectly good veteran soldier you can still go to war with. Just as reliable as the newcomer. Plus, I know you, deep down, you don’t want to get rid of me as it would be contradictory to these eco-friendly values you hold so dear. I don’t want to expose you but…if you throw me out because of my look are you really a REAL one? Noooo…that’s not you. Quite the contrary, you will probably find me a cool #vintage look soon enough anyway (or am I pushing my luck too far?). Let’s make a deal, ok? Ok. It’s true, one doesn’t prevent from the other. You made a wise decision buying the new bottle too. I might have flaws, but jealousy isn’t one of them. I’m not even annoyed at welcoming another bottle to the family. We could take advantage of this opportunity to…try a new Pure product we don’t already use? Worst case scenario, I don’t mind moving on to another happy family (I can help them get started on the ‘’zero, or at least a lot less, waste’’ lifestyle). I don’t know…if need be, just get my label off with lighter fluid if you think I just need a new outfit. Or wait a minute! Maybe one of the rooms in the house could use reinforcements? Or maybe I can start a new life at the cottage!? I’m anxious, but in the end…I know you’re a creative human being, that hates throwing perfectly good stuff in the trash. I trust you. I’m eager to see how you’ll capitalize on my new veteran status. (Speaking of which, a little ceremony and medal to honor my years of loyal service would be totally appropriate don’t you think? Maybe a parade or something…just leaving this out there…)
